Our Very Souls Entwine

by

Alice C. Bateman

Wrap me in your skin
Enrapt in your embrace
Fold me in your arms
Let me kiss your face

You'd think the drummer in my heart
Was with the Iron Butterfly
He sets my heart to pounding
Even when you're passing by

And when you are inside my house
My heart, it lets me know
By drumming hard inside my chest
Slowing down the rhythm only when you have to go

And your heart, when you hug me
Pounds right in time with mine
Our bodies meld, our senses blend
Our very souls entwine

Our bodies crave each other
With a force that's eons old
Maybe many years ago
We were two halves of one mold
