The Lightning and the Candle
by
Alice C. Bateman
The lightning and the candle
And chocolate from my son
The strength, the warmth, the decadence
All rolled into one
The power of the lightning
Is awesome to behold
It lifts me right out of myself
A connection’s taking hold
The candle’s at my left hand
The pen is in my right
The lightning through the window
Illuminates the night
I turn my back unto the east
My heart is facing west
I’m drinking in the power
To undertake a quest
What shall it be, I wonder
What may soon come about
When I leap into the future
And leave behind my doubts
What will occur tomorrow
Or the day after then
Will it be joy or sorrow
That happens in the when
It matters not, I’ll take it
This is my life to live
To make you laugh and make you cry
To see what I can give
