Atheist

by

Alisha Morgan

"Have you found Jesus to be your personal savior?" To be honest, is it any of your business? I've found that answering honestly causes eyebrows to be raised, for the asker to back away from me, and perhaps cause my new nickname to be "atheist." But that doesn't bother me. I may not have God on my side, but that doesn't stop me for taking it all in stride. My question is this: why am I suddenly treated differently once my religious affiliation is known? Why am I bombarded with questions of, "Do you worship the Devil?" "Aren't you afraid of going to hell?" "Why don't you believe that He exists?"

My replies are as follows: I believe that the devil exists just as much as God does. I've been in hell and if it does exist, then it can't be worse than the first 14 years of my life. And then there's the major answer to The Big Question of why I don't believe. I'm not going to lead you to believe that I know a lot about the research done to prove or disprove if He exists. I don't know much about what has been found in support of atheistic beliefs. What I do know is that I don't feel his Almighty spirit when I flip through my Bible. I wasn't raised in an environment of Sunday church services. I feel that one must feel something whenever thinking about God. I don't feel anything.

There are other reasons, of course, but I don't like to argue about it. We each have our own choice as to what we believe in and there's no point in fighting over who is wrong and who is right.

I barely think about God and all that is associated with Him. I have no problem reciting "...one nation, under God..." whenever I pledge my allegiance. I just don't care to think, argue, or judge, those who do or do not believe. To each his own.

I just wish others would look past "atheist," so that my other views could be known.
