To Be Me
by
Alisha Morgan
Do you know
what it's like to be me?
No, of course you don't
You don't know what it's like to feel like an
outcast
Or feel lonely
Do you cry at night until you fall asleep?
Have you ever wondered why you look as awful as you
do?
Do you wish you were that popular girl?
That thin girl everyone wants
The one your school worships?
Do you care that the cute guy in fifth period is
staring?
Do you think he thinks you're a pig?
Or making fun of you in his head?
Do you think these things?
Well, do you?
If you do, then you have no idea what it's like to
be me.
I include myself, whether people want me to or not.
I have peaceful dreams
And tear free nights.
I like the way I look
And don't worry about it.
I don't want to be the popular girl
I don't have to be thin
I don't need to be worshipped
The cute guy is the least of my worries
And if pigs and cracks enter his mind
While watching me
He's not worth the time it takes for my thoughts
I think of these things
These worthy and powerful things
This is what I think -
This is what it means to be me
Power - in myself
Strength - in my actions
Love - for myself
Meaning - in my life
Self-awareness - very important.
I take pride in myself
This is what it means to be me
And I love being me.
