Gazer
by
Ashley M. Presutto
Caught a friendly star gazer, the last night I went out.
It's taken me almost two years to figure him out.
Just the other night, he said he feels the same.
But I never knew I felt that way. I thought that I cared.
I'd said I'd catch him if he dare jump.
I thought about the dream that left him there in the rain.
Not even the kiss from my daddy could cure this pain.
But where did he go now? Him and his guns.
Where does he sleep now? Watch him run.
Where does he live now?
Deep in my heart, he sits in a corner, in the pitch dark.
In the back of my mind, he plays Strip Solitaire.
I keep steady my gaze, to hold the still frame tight.
He's out of my reach, but in my sight.
