Farewell Notes

by

Charles Okafor

Now the storms have ceased
Again for our laughter,
And half prude, half beauteous sojourn
On nature's deathless face.
We have placed our grudge
And dark sides feet below
Our hands have become bloodless, and
Our hearts pure that the guns may sleep
I remember you who for the sake of homeland,
Lie slain on rifle grounds,
Where the sun for days lay in the pool of your blood
The blood of our days,
And from the depths of my heart,
The hope of my heart
This verse i leave for you beloved,
You who with the price of your life,
bought for us this gift of peace.
