A Definition Gone Awry

by

Chaya Anavi

say hi
to a definition gone awry
down the well it went
bye bye
came back with a different intent

sense is overrated
simple becomes complicated
can sane be related
to crazy that's sedated

i wish upon a star
for a life unmarred
maybe then i'll start
taking reason in regard

is it fun you poke
with each word sardonic
how about the joke
of one that's nice--laconic

or this useless lyric
would it make you get sick
it is just for fun though
that's the meaning i pick

to dispirit is forbidden
let us laugh along
you say you were just kiddin'
and that i am in the wrong

for there must be some fault
i must close to blind
or imagining the assault
hidden between the lines

where does fun
cross the line of cruel
we must speak different tongues
since when did you-equals-funny become a rule

remember these words are made-up
don't tell me you are sensitive
come on just laugh it up
madness is imperative

so say hi
to a definition gone awry
down the well it went
bye bye
came back with a different intent
a lie? a lie?
