Nine thousand four hundred and sixty two
by
Chris Kendalls
I thought it would never happen
Yet, I was in disbelief when it did
I still do not want to think that it did
Yet, life to me is pressing forward
Living regardless to how I thought life would be
Where were you?
On the day, that everything changed.
When nothing was the same?
In the middle of my dreams
I stood in a desolate field
With 25 podiums
With 25 stages
Dwarfed by 25 movie screens
There was absolutely no one around
Endless videotapes looped incessantly
Speeches given by individuals
Answering that exact question
Because the leadership had disappeared
As if it’s forever
In the middle of the summer
Because it was forever
In the middle of September
As information stopped
As time stopped
As life came to a stop
Nothing else mattered until October
