I Woke Up

by

Christie Houston

Life was good and you were kind
I didn't feel like melon rind
Love was real and so were you
Grass was green, sky was blue
Trees grew tall along the road
I kissed a prince and found a toad
Flowers died, the sea was black
Reality just seemed to lack
I once was happy, then woke up
Holding nothing but an empty cup.
