Letting Go

by

Cinnamon Brown

I ran into a friend of a friend yesterday
He told me that you had mentioned my name
Suddenly emotions started to rise
I felt tears welling in my eyes
He said that you were doing just fine
I started remembering when you were mine
He said that life was treating you well
Me on the other hand well I'm going through hell
I let it all out in a brief moment
All those feelings that I had shut in
I remembered why I had loved you
I remembered why I stopped loving too
Hearing that your fine is what I needed
Knowing your well was a relief
Losing my head as well as composure
Was just what I needed for closure
Loving someone means letting go
Letting go is what hurts the most
He hugged me and walked away
He took my memories of you with him yesterday
