Limelight

by

D. A. Williams

As I take the stage

On me, the lights shine

This time is mine

I get to speak my mind

And make my light lime

You see all I ever wanted

Was someone to believe in me

Searched high and low

And no one could see the dreams

For the demons in me

Not for stardom, fortune, nor fame

All I ever wanted

Was freedom from pain

A gentle hand on my face

To wipe away my tears

Someone there beside me

While I faced my fears

That person is still unfound

And perhaps forever will be

But I am stronger for it all

For I believe in me.
