This Broken Heart
by
Diane M. Beauton

For this
broken heart of mine
Weeping silently in me
I beg of time
The great physician
Heal it . . . set it free
For this tattered heart of mine
Alive but without beat
I ask of God
Potter of this clay
Mend it . . . so it may keep
To this impassive heart of mine
Unresponsive to all pleas
I plead of you
Flesh of my flesh
It’s you who holds the key
So my heart weep no more
And begin to beat anew
Let go the ache
And live life once more
Having known the mortal you
