The Restless Wanderer

by

Eric Michael Hines

To put my anxious heart at ease,
I feel the air, the morning's breeze.
And the sustaining light, from east, from night.
Shivering all the apple trees,
and sending fearless leaves to flight.

I'll pay no heed to shadows that tempt me.
That stand ahead to slow my way.
I fear no evil that will come to test me.
I'll hold the darkest souls at bay.

So as the day begins, I must depart,
on a boundless journey of brav'ry and heart.
To fight a war in a land apart,
from what I know, from where I start.

The darkest day lies far ahead,
and the peaceful times are far behind.
But I won't falter in my quest.
I'll do my part to save mankind.
I feel the sustaining light,
from east, from night,
and the breeze sending fearless leaves to flight.

And I fly.
