Absalom our Absalom

by

Frank Blacharczyk

Absalom Absalom why did you betray me
I gave and never asked for anything in return
But you were a sponge that needed to be squeezed
Constantly expecting that which has not occurred
Absalom Absalom I replaced love for honour
I slammed the door a punishing sound
But I love you and I don’t know how
Your words kill me your treason torment’s me
Love lives but lost in our obedience to that hungry desire
you don’t believe me do you Absalom
I asked Joab not to harm you but he disobeyed
Every spear thrust into your vulnerable spirit
was driven into my heart and my mourning never healed
I never forgave him I exacted my revenge
through your brother
Absalom Absalom tears obscure your face
Damn those tears but no damn can hold them back
