The Awful Smells to Me
by
Jessica Sayer

Parody of "Smells" by Christopher Morley
Why is it that poets tell
So little of the awful smells?
These smells I hate so well
The smell of worms freshly ground
Or a rich foot fungus crowned
Or eggs fried burnt browned
The black odour of an old pipe
The smell of socks, newly ripe
And printers stink on leaden type
The wet wood in September
The reeking of bad breath, Remember
Or green liver over the smoky embers
The foul smell times three
Of a rotting Christmas tree
These are awful smells to me
Oh, now don't you see?
