Red Rain

by

Johanna Albee

You hold in your hand a single, yellow rose.
Symbolic of a beautiful friendship. But, look closer
For at it’s crown lies a gentle rain of red.
Symbolic of the beginnings of something deeper.
Like the rose my heart has this gentle rain of red transpiring.
Every time your full lips form a smile,
Every time gentle words are exchanged between us,
Every time I smell your soft, sweet skin,
Every time your angel blue eyes look past mine and Into my soul,
Every time your hands caress me.

Someday, before you, that single yellow rose will have blossomed into a deep, red one.
Close your eyes.... listen to the sound of your red rain falling gently over my heart,
the yellow rose.
