"Whisper"

by

John S. Albanes

The gossip morgue aches
for newly widowed thoughts—
those abused since birth,
preferably feet out first—but
rarely garners patrons
because they divulge only in silence

with eyes full of truth, and
palms pillaged to the bone,
singed forever due to innocence
lost, and buried deeper
by their own avalanche of sorrow.

But you reveal all
to the eclipse of the moon,
which hears only the whispers
of muses drowning in
the savagery of man.
