A Piece of Paper

by

Jolanta Gradowicz

I’ve found a note written with your hand -
A little piece of paper in my drawer
With out-of-date notes – my little island
With a buried treasure – I, discoverer.

I touch gently letters like the blind,
As if I stroked your fingers – one by one.
Scores of memories come in my mind,
I feel pulsating blood in your palm…

I can’t throw it away out of my desk.
It’s impossible – it’s too painful,
I don’t feel up to doing it – to wreck
The return to the past – this symbol.

I hold it close to my chest with sadness.
My tears fall down on the dear sheet -
All my life, and all my happiness,
And a priceless memory – so sweet…
