Minister’ Conscience
by
Jolanta Gradowicz
It came and knocked at my door.
“Who is it?” – I asked, shaking with fear.
“Let me in! Your refusal makes me sore.”
“Go away and don’t try to come near!”
“How do you mean? I am your conscience.”
These words sounded really sinister.
I tried to trace my poor existence.
“You’ve visited a regular minister!
I always kept to my party platform;
What sins and offences should I commit?
I always voted against and even for...
And I remember I was forced to submit
To the party discipline and the vetting.
I know all my promises were fiction.
But now my proposal has a new setting:
Come to me, again, after next election!”
