True To Yourself

by

Jonathan Isenor

You stand in a crowd of people
Who are passing a joint around
They keep telling you to try it
You continue to refuse
Until it's in your hand

You think about how tempting it is
You stare down at it
Still you hold true to yourself
You pass it on without taking a drag

People make fun of you
For not trying
You don't care
Instead you go home and lay awake in bed
Staring at the ceiling

Thinking about what happened
Thinking about how they were yelling and making fun of you
You roll over still thinking about everything
A smile spreads across your face as you realize under pressure you still managed to be true to yourself.
