Wow! That's quite a long chapter. Do you think you're laying too much on the reader at once? The city, the telephone call, the invention and most of all your skill at narration and hyperbole. You finally get into it with ... "he was a mad scientist" but until then I really felt swamped.

You write flawlessly and this excerpt shows that -- it's as error free as an annotated essay from a Ph.D. at Harvard, but I cringe at some of the hyperbole, like this one; >>For to speak audibly in an empty room was, for him, as alien and contrived as soiling his pants;<<

The significance of the hyperbole "For to speak in an empty room is, for him, as alien as soiling his pants..." is not the magnitude of the exaggeration but rather the relation; that is, I try to show that it is sociologically engraved in his mind and ultimately his body, a new body that will not allow him to speak in an empty room just like it will not allow him to soil his pants.

The reason I wrote the book was because I was incarcerated for 11 months and it seemed like a better investment of my time than getting involved in the politics there.
