Smothering Me
by
Kimberly Hunt
The sunlight smothers me.
I do not want to wake
and face another dreadful,
lonely day.
I do not want to be
reminded that I have lost
the only person I have ever loved.
The sunlight smothers me,
but it fails to make me forget.
Instead, it delights in telling
me how foolish I've been.
It laughs in my face as it says
"Have a hell of a day."
Hell.
That's about it.
The sunlight smothers me.
I do not want to see the
light of day again,
but here it is.
I hate that the sun is involved
in the conspiracy
to devastate me a little more
every day.
I give in to the sunlight's laughter today,
and I pretend it doesn't bother me...
by putting on my shades and a fake smile.
