Happy
by
Lori-Anne Malonson

Can sadness be so beautiful?
Can anguish be so boisterous?
When I held your eyes in mine,
The tears behind your levity
Sliced my heart, made it bleed for you.
Your tempestuous touch caused my blood to race,
Worsening the condition of my draining heart.
Can suffering be contagious?
The cost of allowing my feelings to be enveloped
In the deep, bright blue of your eyes
Has been the transference of your heart's burden
To my soul.
I wish I could endure the pain for you.
I would spend eternity
Locked in the prison of your mind,
If you could only be
Happy.
