A Cry in the Wilderness

by

Marlicia Fernandez

A lone wolf howls
Mournful notes against a harvest moon
Cold, sorrowful,
A lost soul
Calling for its other half
Searching the gleaming expanse of crushed snow
Early fallen
Pristine and
Treacherous
Hiding gaping jaws and steel teeth
Beneath a velvet beauty
Its deadly bite
Worth braving to find the missing piece
That will make him whole again
If only in eternal sleep
