Driftwood

by

Matt Dotson

He’s given up on this thing called reality
Though he’s sought so long
He’s wandered off and lost his way
The stormy seas will right his wrong
His ship is set aflame
Tears of blood
Tears of shame
Reality sinks to into the deep
His life, nothing but driftwood
No longer to seek
Reality
Freedom of the sea is lost
His vessel has been burned
Though at such a wretched cost
The lesson has not been learned
The birds cry his name
As the sun dries his skin
With nothing to cover his shame
He shatters from within
Tossed by the waves
Reality is revealed
His life will not be saved
His suffering has come to yield
Reality
