An Old Man

by

Matthew Grey

Wrinkles on sun weathered skin
years of life have worn him thin
still there is something in his eyes
a light, there till the day he dies.

Long past are his years of youth
but wisdom of many years past,
wisdom to pass on to the youth
to tell of lessons of the past.

So if you sit and listen to him close,
because years have worn down his voice,
he can tell you how to keep it close,
tell you how to make the right choice.

He can give you hope and faith in life,
all you have to do is lend your ear.
He will show you how to get the most of life,
but some things you might not want to hear.

But see the light in him when you pass,
that light is there because of love.
The light is something he can’t pass
it was only shared with his lost love.

He will tell you that a lost love
makes you want love even more,
so hold onto ones you do love
or spend life searching for more.
