Point Guard
by
Nancy Brar

The blood
pounds inside my head,
I let the anticipation build,
I take the rebound and my team I led,
Down the basketball court,
Whipping one way, then going another,
Between the legs and a spin of sorts,
The ball is dribbled hard and tough,
But controlling the ball is not enough,
I look around,
My options I weigh,
Squeaky shoes the only sound,
Losing the ball is a price I’m not willing to pay,
Then I’m inward bound,
The tiny window of opportunity I see,
Then away and gone goes me,
Past my check I quickly go,
Then shout once,
The ball I throw,
Into the outstretched arms of my post,
Then it hits the backboard and in it goes!
The scoreboard shows our points are the most,
When I make the play I have to play the right
cards,
I lead my team,
THE POINT GUARD
