The Coming of Age from Boy to Man
by
Neil Bridgens

There i stood at the top of the landing
so frightened
clutching my hurt and self assurances,
pride swallowed to pulp
and summoning a little courage
i choke an hello,
as he stands menacingly looking up at me
with his belt in hand.
And now a little older,
i stand at the top of the staircase
and await the man i once feared
who carries no anger,
just an old man long past remembering.
And stepping down the stairway
i grasp his hand
to say hello.
