Gentle
Giant
by
Nicole
Starleigh Yeager

He hides among the bamboo stalks
Watching as his hunter walks
His breath is careful, his eyes are fixed
This enemy, he knows, has many tricks
His soft brown eyes show compassion and fear
The poacher for only one reason is here
A blast in the distance -- the hunter waits
The creature is wondering about his fate
A signalling flare and away the man runs
But the panda knows it has just begun
Once again, with good fortune, to live life he is free
Yet out there is a brother he never again will see.
