Feeding A Need

by

Paul Grimsley

I turn my gaze in on myself
To read what is written in the well's memory --
Down a line gathered in the cupped hands
Of a bucket
The source of my thirst dwells: To have once drunk
Is to create a need,
Before i swallowed the sustenance
I could forget the flesh built around it --
Now i am reminded;
To have never known
Is to have never wanted,
The drought didn't know its name
Until water told it
I am what you are not.
