Proteus

by

Paul Grimsley

I shift from divining the future,
flow into new secrecy's acre,
from the sovereign of these depths
in my tower, planted west,
where tomorrow lies;
i grow to hide
what falls into my eyes;
knowledge of that to come
makes me quicksilver:
a mirror
that warps the reflection
to bury the definition.
