Once It Shone

by

Peter Sprenkeler

Where has all our world's love gone?

Like a radiant beacon it once shone!

Where has all our world's integrity gone?

No more it is to marvel on!

Where has all our world's compassion gone?

Numbed by hate; was once full on!

Where has all our world's precious peace gone?

Fled from many bloody battlefields thereon!

Where has all our world's mercy gone?

Felled by dreadful anger reasons anon!

Where has all our world's mystery gone?

Lost to modern technology the race is on!

Where has all our world's hope now gone?

Vanished no more to gaze upon!

Where have all our world's good things gone?

Oh how in our souls they once shone!

Where has all our world's future gone?

Lost forever to the threat of "the Bomb!"

Where has all our world's innocence gone?

Taken by two buildings brutally bombed!
