Sleepwalker

by

Sandy Jamar

Sleepwalker,
dreamer of pleasant dreams
was I,
hypnotized
and drugged
by the analgesic
Spring

until July
disturbed my sleep.
Its heat
and glare
assaulted like
acid rain.

Deathwalker,
crawler of the desert
am I,
eyelids burned away
in Summer's kiln.

I am become
a pygmy
writhing
o'er glazed dunes;
a thin mirage
spawned
by the Red Giant
nailed
upon a molten
sky.

For companions
only scorpions
remain
and I have
forgotten
all I'd dreamed
of in the
Spring.
