Lions Can be Cowards

by

Sara Rarick

It’s strange how two people can be so drawn to each other, that the first time they meet they can’t keep their eyes off each other.

Even as thoughts began to wander, all they thought about was being together.

And as they both know that they shouldn’t because it couldn’t end out right,

they began to fall together, with no regrets.

For a time everything can work out fine, happiness and smiles all the while,

but nothing that good ever turns out right in the end.

They were able to hide it for a while, sneaking off to be alone,

but even spies are caught sometimes.

It’s ridiculous, how one person could pretend to care for so long, but when a sign of trouble comes, they forget everything that happened and turn their backs with no shame.

Like nothing ever mattered to them, that person they couldn’t stop thinking about,

is just pushed aside like nothing.

Just to save yourself… It’s pathetic really.

Only cowards act like that.
