Touched the Sky

by

Shannon Billings

I have touched the sky,
soared from this hole in the ground.
I screamed for a savior,
and was finally found.

I have touched the sky,
heard my voice loud and clear.
I prayed for the courage to live,
and said goodbye to all my fear.

I have touched the sky,
escaped the prison of my heart.
I reached the end of all I could do,
and then realized I was at the start.

I have touched the sky.
I know heaven is not far.
I know that I can fly.

I have touched the sky.
And now I lie in the ground.
My heart is bleeding,
my voice won't make a sound.

I want to give up,
never again have to try,
no more words to say.
But I have touched the sky,
And I can face another day.
