Age Barrier

by

Solomon Machardson

The age gulf is a natural barrier

Between youth and the aged.

Just as you cannot remove the Alps

So can you not remove the age barrier.

Children cannot be one with age

They have their age mates

With whom they play and fight

Just as the old have had their age mates too.

Gifts cannot undo age barrier:

It cannot turn age into youth,

Memory into adventure,

Experience into innocence.

Just as the die cast cannot be un-cast,

The flow of the river cannot be reversed,

And the clock of time cannot be unwound,

So, life lived cannot be unlived.

Just as a guinea fowl and his bald head

Can never be parted,

So youth and adventure

And age and leisure, cannot be parted.
