Be Your Own Self

by

Troy Luedke

All that I wanted was to be like him
Cast in his image, to be his friend

I tried so hard to accomplish this task
just to be noticed that's all that I asked

Left in the cold, shuffled to the side
this is what happened, endlessly I cried

Just could not stand it, this pain inside me
I dealt it with rage, yet what did they see

"What should we do with this childhood rebellion?"
Looked at by all as "One little hellion"

I just couldn't figure, a life lived this way
I hoped it a nightmare, to wake up someday

I knew deep within me, I was misunderstood
Proved they were wrong, did they think that I could

Acceptance from others was once my concern
yet life taught a lesson that I soon would learn

Be your own self, take pride in what you do
and sooner or later your dreams will come true
